Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez was born in Mexico and is an American-Mexican actor. She also sings. Her mother was her primary caregiver in the USA in a place where she endured numerous racial slurs that caused her to feel as someone who was not wanted. After she participated in a school competition and received the highest praise for her singing when she was in the ninth grade the young girl started to feel more confident. The experience not only helped the confidence of her, but also altered the direction she was heading in her life. The 22-year-old earned a degree from Julliard School in New York. In 1993, she made her Broadway debut in Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. In the Broadway original production of Spamalot she portrayed The Lady of The Lake which won the Tony Award as well as the praise of critics. Later in the same year she appeared on the ABC program Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. The actress is also a renowned performer and has released an extended play. In addition, she is a LGBT activist.
